Here at SJM we offer a consultation known as our Advanced Skin Analysis, and this is for good reason!
In this one hour appointment with one of our therapists you will go through quite a lot of topics, and this is so that we can get as much information as possible, to then be able to provide the best recommendations tailored to suit your skin needs, budget and lifestyle. Ultimately, resulting in the best results for your skin!
Many skin conditions (especially those of inflammatory nature) originate from within, often starting in our internal organs - mostly our Gut. Discussing things such as current diet or eating habits, stress levels and working environment can have a huge impact on your skin and overall health and wellbeing.
For example, certain foods may be causing inflammation or irritation to your gut, stimulating a stress response and exacerbating skin conditions such as Rosacea, Acne, and Dermatitis.
Stress is a HUGE contributor to skin conditions and skin changes, including things like premature ageing, inflammation and even eczema. consistently high stress levels put a lot of pressure on your Adrenal glands, it increases your cortisol levels in the body, which then increases oil production and inflammation.
Certain working environments can impact our skin, how it looks, feels and behaves. If you are sitting in front of a heater or temperature controlled office all day, this can dry out the skin and if you are not using the right products and home care, this can result in conditions such as Dermatitis and dehydration.
Working outdoors or in harsh weather can bring in premature signs of ageing through oxidative stress to our skin cells. Showing up as hyperpigmentation, increase of fine lines and wrinkles and essential fatty acid deficiency.
So in short... there are A LOT of contributing factors that we need to look at to better understand your skin, its behaviour and the reason for its current condition.
We then get to the fun part, where you will be photographed using our OBSERVE LIGHT photo booth. This machine uses different light filters to show us what is going on underneath the surface of your skin.
Bringing forward what we cannot see with the naked eye.
This is a brilliant tool for us to see any potential underlying conditions such as vascularity, pigmentation, essential fatty acid deficiency, dehydration, loss of structural integrity of the skin.
It can also show how much oil flow you have in your skin, or how severe a skin condition may be - for example rosacea, and conditions that may not be visible on the surface such as melasma, that may only be brought to the surface through trauma, excessive heat, and pregnancy.
Once we go through these photos with you and explain what each light filter is showing us, then we get to the good stuff!

Day light : Clear image of your skin
Cross Polarisation : Will show vascular concerns and inflammation
Parallel Polarisation : Will show skin’s surface texture, fine lines, wrinkles, excess keratinisation, enlarged pores and blackheads
True UV/Woods : Will show sun damage, oil flow (good and bad), blocked pores, porphyrin, underlying pigmentation and age spots.
Complexion : A generated image of all the images combined

Towards the end of your consultation with us, we will put together a plan of action. For what we think will give you the best results for your skin in the shortest amount of time, whilst maintaining/building skin strength and health!
A customised treatment plan, along with a recommended skincare routine for home, potentially some supplements or vitamins to boost your internal organ function, as this will ensure we get lasting results instead of a quick fix. As well as potentially some facial tools like a Gua Sha, or Micro needle roller to assist even further with the home care.
